BMWF #5: Upper Middle Fork Flathead Clean-up

Type of Project: floating, GPS weeds inventory, campsite cleanup, campsite monitoring
Rating: Easy-Moderate
Trip Dates: 07/16/2010 to 07/19/2010
Location: Upper Middle Fork Flathead River from Granite Ck to Bear Ck, Great Bear Wilderness
Work: Join us for our first ever river based work trip on the Wild & Scenic Upper Middle Fork of the Flathead River. We will hike 6 miles into Granite Cabin and prepare all of our float gear for launching the next day. We'll work to clean up campsites, assist in campsite monitoring efforts and GPS map noxious weeds along the river corridor. We will stay each night at a Forest Service Cabin on the river and we'll be floating in rafts with all of our gear, so keep it light! We will have experienced boatmen to row the boats, but ask volunteers have some river experience as this is a class III-IV whitewater river. Expect long days, the potential to get very wet and cold, and the adventure of a lifetime!

This is a backcountry river based trip with cabin and outhouse facilities. Volunteers will be asked to provide their own sleeping bags and personal river gear. Space is very limited and personal gear will be limited to 1 medium dry bag per person. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided.
Total Miles: 6 (hiking), ~30 river miles (floating!)
Elevation Gain: -800'
RSVP: FULL
