The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation is teaming up with the Continental Divide Trail Alliance to bring you this amazing opportunity! This project is located in a scenic area straddling the Scapegoat Wilderness along the Continental Divide at the head of the Blackfoot River, deep in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The hike begins at Alice Creek at ~5,500ft and steadily gains elevation with panoramic views and stunning scenery throughout, topping out at 8,500ft, before finally dropping into the Valley of the Moon basin. You’ll build your strength and endurance each day with a short steep hike to the worksite, but you’ll be rewarded with amazing vistas and unmatched solitude. Primary work will focus on defining the trail corridor (sawing downed trees with crosscut, cutting back overgrown brush, building rock cairns), blocking off switchbacks and user trails to reduce erosion, drainage maintenance (digging small trenches to keep water off the trail and erosion prevention) and spot retread (trail reconstruction in areas that are sloughing downhill or unsafe). Help us maintain this National Scenic Trail for all to enjoy! Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.
This is a backcountry camping trip with primitive campsites. BMWF will coordinate pack support to bring in tools, food, group gear and maybe some personal gear. You will be asked to provide your own gear and assist in camp chores. Sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided. |
