The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation has teamed up with the Continental Divide Trail Alliance to bring you this project located in a scenic area straddling the Scapegoat Wilderness along the Continental Divide. The hike begins at the Dearborn Trailhead and follows the scenic Dearborn River before starting a steady climb for the last 4 miles to arrive at camp at 6,500ft on the spine of the Divide. We’ll overnight here and then make the final push another 3 miles clearing our way into our basecamp for the week. Total mileage to basecamp is approximately 13 miles. You’ll earn your dinner each night with hikes to the worksite ranging from 1-3 miles depending on work progress and group stamina, but will enjoy solitude and silence in one of the most remote regions of the entire CDNST! The work will focus on re-clearing any new trees down (sawing out downed logs), removing rocks from the trail, drainage maintenance (digging small trenches to keep water off the trail) and digging in the trail where it is sloughing off the hillsides. Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.
This is a backcountry camping trip with primitive campsites. BMWF will coordinate pack support to transport food, group gear and tools into the backcountry, but volunteers should be prepared to hike in all personal gear. You will be asked to provide your own gear and assist in camp chores. Sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided. |
