The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation has partnered with the Continental Divide Trail Alliance to do some much needed work on the CDT! The hike starts on the east side of the divide and passes through Aspen groves and steep rocky reefs before crossing over into the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. The crew will backpack in 12 miles from the West Fork of the Teton trailhead over Teton Pass and drop down into the scenic Grizzly Park to set up a primitive backcountry camp. This landscape was changed drastically by the Fool Creek Fires of 2007 and provides an intimate look at the dynamic fire mosaic. Working on turnpike (raised trail to reduce mud and erosion in wet sections) is tough and technical, but rewarding work. We’ll start with removing old sections of turnpike in desperate need of attention and reconstruction as well as new construction. The crew will be utilizing native material on site in the construction process and working with a packer who will be hauling gravel with stock for fill material. Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.
This is a backcountry camping trip with a primitive campsite. BMWF will coordinate pack support to bring in tools, food, group gear and maybe some personal gear. You will be asked to provide your own gear and assist in camp chores. Sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided. |
