Weeds #5: Green Fork

Type of Project: backpacking, hand pulling weeds
Rating: Moderate-Strenuous
Trip Dates: 07/22/2010 to 07/27/2010
Location: Scapegoat Wilderness, SW Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex
Work: We’re delivering the one-two punch to the weed infestations we fought here last year! Join us in one of the most scenic places in The Bob--just beneath Scapegoat Mountain Massif. The hike to base camp is relatively flat, with scenic views along Straight Creek. Volunteers will help hand-pull an infestation of Spotted Knapweed in the Green Fork drainage; no chemicals are planned for this project. The BMWF crew leader will train each volunteer on plant identification and treatment methods to help us meet our goals. The worksite is on a steep hillside and requires off trail travel, so bring your sturdy hiking boots and your camera for this one! You’ll sleep under the stars and awake to the crimson-kissed Scapegoat wall as sunrise lights up this natural amphitheatre. Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.

This is a backcountry camping trip with primitive campsites. BMWF will coordinate pack support to bring in tools, food, group gear and maybe some personal gear. You will be asked to provide your own gear and assist in camp chores. Sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided.
Total Miles: 12
